The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow

Thomasina Bateman, an antiquarian is writing a book on the history of barrows in England. It’s a record of what treasures she comes across in. An intriguing letter calls her to the small village of Bewlay, tucked away in the remote countryside, she travels by train and her assistant to leave to spend the day in Bewlay.
At the time of her arrival the man mysteriously called her has not yet be seen. Her assistant never arrives. The landowner is obstinate in refusing access to his barrow and the locals are wary of the lady who is traveling alone in her own vehicle and (gasp!) wears trousers.
The digging of Hob’s Barrow is off to rough beginning. Then Thomasina is having bizarre dreams…
